Kyiv-Atlantic Ukraine Donates 10,000kg of Food to Orphanage

Znamyanka, Kirovohrad Oblast, Ukraine – The 120 orphans at the Znamyanka Orphanage were the lucky recipients of 10,000 kg of flour donated and delivered by the socially responsible company, Kyiv-Atlantic Ukraine – a gift valued at $2,500.

The Founders and present executives of Kyiv-Atlantic Ukraine, David and Tamara Sweere, have been working on Ukrainian soil since the early 90s and, at present, distribute their food products and agricultural services throughout Ukraine.  The Sweere’s are not only successful businessmen, but also humanitarians who donated the 10 tons of flour to the Znamyanka Orphanage supported by CCRDF in the Kirovohrad oblast.

Tatiana Ivanivna Valko, the Director of the Znamyanka Orphanage, exclaimed, “We are so very grateful for this donation of flour.  And we are most pleased to see that it is a high grade – a higher grade than we can afford to purchase for the children.  Given that we have a bakery on the premises of our orphanage, this flour will last us approximately 7 months during which funds budgeted for flour can be used to purchase other quality foods – such as fish and meat – commonly too expensive to purchase from the allotted budget.”

CCRDF has been working with the Znamyanka orphanage since 2001 to improve the quality of life for the orphans through nutritional, rehabilitation, and educational programs.  Through the dedicated work of the orphanage staff and funding provided mostly by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, CCRDF has been able to provide concentrated nutrients to feed the children, physical therapy equipment to strengthen the children’s motor skills, and educational tools and toys to stimulate the children by teaching them useful activities.

This is the second time that Kyiv-Atlantic Ukraine has supported CCRDF’s programs.  In 2008, Kyiv-Atlantic Ukraine was a Bronze Benefactor of the International Gala Fundraiser supported by Ambassadors to Ukraine which proceeds were used to purchase sophisticated surgical equipment for the National Cancer Institute.
