How Can I Help / Healthy and Happy Family Building Renovation Campaign

Brochure:        Healthy and Happy Family Building Campaign ~ Please print and distribute to family, friends and at your workplace!

The Situation

Traditionally in Ukraine, women bear the sole responsibility of their pregnancy, delivery and at times, raising their children alone. The concept of ‘parenthood’ education is new and slow to develop in Ukraine and women often turn to other females for advice. But, much of the advice are old-world myths, out-of-date methods or useless information, which can be inaccurate or cause anxiety for soon-to-be mothers, especially first-timers.

Volodymyrets
, Ukraine

Volodymyrets is a small town located in northern Ukraine and 50 miles from the Belarusian border. Due to its close proximity to the contaminated Chornobyl Zone, the population is exposed to dangerously high levels of radiation which leads to various adverse health affects. In recent years, local issues in reproductive health have worsened, whereas in 2006, infant mortality and morbidity has risen higher than average oblast (provincial) levels.

The Need

There is a great need in establishing a parenting center offering education, training and information to prepare young families through their pregnancy, delivery and beyond. A parenting center will help couples safeguard the health of their unborn babies and protect themselves from unnecessary risks during pregnancy.  By introducing new healthcare practices, parenting concepts, techniques and problem solving, they can greatly improve children’s futures.

The Campaign

The Children of Chornobyl Relief and Development Fund (CCRDF) has teamed up with partner physician, Dr. Serhij Buravsky from the Central Regional Hospital in Volodymyrets, Ukraine, to start-up a parenting center for young families and expecting mothers.  Recently acquired was a distressed, 1,227 square foot building, in dire need of capital renovations. This campaign hopes to raise up to $100,000, which would be used towards remodeling costs, furniture, medical equipment and various supplies.

One-Time Opportunity

Dr. Buravsky had won a government bid in prime real-estate rental. Local government administrators have agreed to a two-year pilot program, which can be renewed for an additional forty-nine years, provided that the program is effectively running by the end of spring in 2009.

This is a one-time opportunity for local Ukrainians to have access to western-modeled family & women’s health program that will offer post-partum therapies, family planning, breastfeeding counseling, a medical consulting team in reproductive health, and developmental care of toddlers.

Reconstruction before summer 2008 can open the doors to a bright future!
